AMERICAN TEEN

This week I went and checked out the documentary American Teen. The film focuses on the mess that is being a high school student in small town Warsaw, Indiana. Hannah Bailey, Megan Krizmanich, Jake Tusing, Colin Clemens, and Mitch Reinholt really have nothing in common but the dream to make something of themselves after high school...or not. The driving force of the story line is Hannah Bailey, a quirky, heartbroken teen, who wishes for nothing but a one way ticket to California. She is the quintessential odd ball who manages to catch the eye of the high school "hottie" Mitch Reinholt. Needless to say, high school relationships come with their fair share of drama. American Teen is true to its title. A story that any teen, or former teen for that matter, can relate too. Whether you were the jock, geek, princess, reject or whatever, you'll find yourself engaged by the stories of these young adults. Not to mention the film is grounded by a fresh soundtrack packed with the likes of The Ting Tings, MGMT, The Black Kids, ect. Don't miss this!

BC PHOTOS

A few weeks a go I spent a couple days over in BC visiting with some family. Managed to go for a drive down to Vancouver, through Whiterock and back up to Surrey. Here's a few of the shots I grabbed along the way.

ROLL WITH THE WINNERS

Hervé teams up with A-Trak for the latest off the Mixmag CD, 'Roll With The Winners'. Carried by the vocals of Edmonton's own Cadence Weapon, this track is definitely a 'winner' (please excuse the obligatory play on words).

GREETINGS FROM SWITZERLAND PT.2

This morning I woke up to a crack of thunder and an email from Stephan in Switzerland. Nice way to start the day if you ask me. First got introduced to Divison Kent a little while back and I can't get enough. With French lyrics, Andrea's airy voice, a hint of mystery and Shook's rework, Divison Kent have proved themselves again. Enjoy!

HEY OCEAN!

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly the summer months slip by. Already, back to school commercials are plaguing the air waves, students are slowly migrating back to the city and the sunset creeps up earlier each night. Having not yet made it out to the west coast this year... I've been searching for that little piece of beachy summer nostalgia to keep the dream alive, that yes I may get a vacation before the daily grind of scheduled life starts back up again in September.

Hey Ocean! were exactly what I was looking for. Late one night, my brother threw on a CD and all his friends instantly tuned in and started raving about how amazing the band's live performance was at the Virgin Festival. We had to listen to the CD twice just so I could actually hear it over all the reminiscing.

Hailing from Vancouver, this eclectic group is lead by vocalist Ashleigh Ball who's soulful voice commands the attention of the entire room. Her partner in crime David Beckingham - Vocals/Guitar, is also a major influence in the writing and sound of the band. The vocal duo are accompanied by worldly inspired Dave Vertesi - Bass and Dan Klenner - Percussion.

With an arsenal of feel good singles and an ever growing fan base, this young band from the West Coast will spend the rest of their summer touring B.C and reminding me why I need to go spend some time at the ocean before it's too late.

IF LOOKS COULD KILL

Do any of you know someone who is constantly dressed up? Has sworn against sweatpants, jeans or never to return to the fateful pajama bottom...even in the privacy of their own home? I have a friend who's resolves are similar. Always rocking an outfit that is usually considered overdressed, my friend Jyll has her priorities straight. Never looking plain, dull or not herself. That being said, I've seen some of the most amazing dresses on this girl, and guess where they're from.

MEESE: a local boutique situated in downtown St.Albert. I had the pleasure of shooting a story inside last year and interviewed the owners Tressa and Evan. Only in it's second year, this store is packed with the latest Canadian designers. As well as boasting an in house label, "Sessa", Meese proudly displays current fashions for men and women alike.
